Mr. Connolly also advised that <br />in case of fire'the nuclear waste goes into concrete in the drum when it gets <br />wet and is not a hazard. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Butler stated that in the scope of operation, if the addition <br />does not effect the license possession limit or amount of activity then he assumed <br />there would not be any impact on safety. Mr. Connolly stated there is now some <br />mechanical equipment outside in the back of the present building which will be <br />enclosed within the confines of the proposed addition but the addition will not <br />have any impact on safety. <br /> <br /> Mr. Earl White, Environmental Consultant for radiation in the Exterior, stated <br />he would like to correct statements made to the Planning Commission by Dr. Korn- <br />field relative to radiation which were not applicable here. He stated that in this <br />situation there is only one pathway for radiation and that is through the air. Mr. <br />I~aite stated that in this type of operation where the radio activity is actually <br />held within the facility by washing, the potential for a hazardous situation would <br />be a small fraction of normal background. He stated he did not think there is any <br />significant exposure from this situation, and that the operation is constrained by <br />regulations and also satisfies the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) concept. <br />Mr. ~ite presented a resume of his credentials as an environmental consultant. <br /> <br /> Mr. Connolly advised this is the conclusion of their testimony and he requested <br />the item be continued four weeks as he would be out of town until that time.
