275 <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that John Dantche, Law Clerk, is leaving the employe of the <br /> City after working in the City Attorney's office this summer. It was moved by Mayor <br /> Mercer, and seconded by Councilmember Butler, that Resolution No. 80-243, commending <br /> John Dantche for his outstanding performance as Law Clerk in the City Attorney's <br /> office this summer, be adopted. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Council extended Happy Birthday wishes to Doris George, Deputy City Clerk. <br /> <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Councilmembers presented various Committee Reports for the information of the <br /> Council. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer advised that the Fair Liaison Members (Mercer and Mohr) had met <br /> with the Fair Board to discuss night-time harness racing at the Fairgrounds. He <br /> stated that an Environmental Impact Report will be required which will take approxi- <br /> mately 100 days to prepare, therefore harness racing will not be a reality this year. <br /> <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Mr. John Caroline, 4487 Pleasanton Avenue, stated he would like to go on record <br /> in opposition to the Fair and to the proposed night-time harness racing because of <br /> the dust, litter, and noise impacts, and that he had sent letters to elected offi- <br /> cials stating his position. <br /> <br /> Mr. Thurman Caudill, 4715B Augustine Street, stated he concurred .~th the pre- <br /> vious speaker regarding night-time harness racing. Mr. Caudill thanked the Council <br /> for their position in opposition to the peripheral canal. Councilmember Wood com- <br /> mended Mr. Caudill for his efforts in obtaining petition signatures relative to <br /> this matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tim Piper, California Peddlers, thanked the Council for their support and <br /> cooperation of the bicycle races last Sunday in connection with Heritage Days. He <br /> reported it was a successful event and that he had received positive feedback re- <br /> garding this matter. He apologized for any inconvenience caused to residents in <br /> the area of the bicycle route. <br /> <br /> PUBLIC FZARINGS <br /> Application of the.City of Pleasanton to Certify that the Final Environmental Impact <br /> Report pr.epared for the possible adoption of a wei=ht limitation ordinance for <br /> vehicles traversin$ .S.tanley Boulevard-First Street-Sunol Boulevard throuMh Pleasan- <br /> ton has been completed in compliance with CEqA and the State duidelines <br /> (Contd.
