of San Francisco for the consideration of and response by the Alameda County Solid <br />Waste Management Authority. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Wood stated he had artended the ABAG General Assembly which <br />emphasized housing needs in the Bay Area. He stated he requested that copies of <br />the housing workshop be transmitted to the Councilmembers. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Butler reported on his trip to Sacramento ohM arch 17, 1980, to <br />testify before the Criminal Justice Planning Committee relative to legislation to <br />control the sale of drug paraphernalia to minors. He advised that the Criminal <br />Justice Planning Committee did not favor as strong a control as desired by the <br />Council but that the legislation did include the non-preemption clause which would <br />allow for stricter local control. Councilmember Butler added that Assemblyman <br />Mori could possibly introduce stronger restrictions when this legislation goes <br />before the Assembly. <br /> <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Mr. H. A. Slattery, representing approximately 30-40 senior citizens in the <br />audience, presented a scroll to the City Council in appreciation of the dial-a-bus <br />service provided by the City for senior citizens. Mr. Slattery also expressed <br />appreciation to Nan Cohan, of the Recreation Department, for her outstanding ser- <br />vice to the senior citizens. Mayor Brandes read the scroll as follows: "Thank <br />you. The members of the Pleasanton City Council have demonstrated their concern <br />for those members of the community with special transportation needs by their <br />firm support of the Paratransit Program. Those whose quality of life has been <br />enhanced and whose ability to maintain an independent lifestyle, strengthened <br />because of the transportation program, Join together to thank the Pleasanton City <br />Council for caring enough to provide such an outstanding service to the COmmunity." <br />The scroll was signed by 70 senior citizens of Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> Ms. Alverto Tepo, Present of the VIP's, expressed appreciation for the use of <br />the Veterans Memorial Building for their social activities. <br /> <br /> Mayor Brandes thanked the senior citizens for this expression of appreciation <br />and assured them that the Paratransit Program would continue. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />Application of Merle Telford for design review approval for a commercial/office <br />complex consisting of three buildings containing. a total of 16~653 sq. ~t. tO ~.~ <br />located at 235 Main Street.
