Councilmember Mercer asked who controls what goes into the packet to be sure
all the information contained therein is correct. Mr. Fernandez stated the Chamber
of Commerce would be in charge of this, with assistance from the City staff.

Mayor Brandes stated he felt that large developers would have their own bro-
chures and he was concerned that the $3,500.00 expenditure would be spent in vain.
Mr. Fernandez stated the Industrial Committee of the Chamber of Commerce felt this
type of brochure would benefit the small property owners who do not know how to
attract desirable industry.

Mayor Brandes expressed concern about adequate sewer capacity for industrial
development.

Councilmember Mercer stated that large developers would advertise their own
development but the thrust of the Chamber of Commerce brochure will be totally for
Pleasanton. Councilmember Mercer stated he felt the brochure should not be under-
taken until after the June election to see if more sewer capacity will be available
for industrial use. He added he felt this was a positive adventure for Pleasanton
and that the City should assist the Chamber of Commerce in this type of activity.

Councilmember Kephart stated he felt that good industry seeks a good location
and there was no need for advertising. Mr. Fernandez stated there is need for
good public relations for industry from the Chamber of Commerce.

Councilmember Butler stated he did not see this brochure as being in competi-
tion with large land developers and felt it is a positive step in seeking out de-
sirable industrial business in Pleasanton.

Mr. Lowell Beezley, 3673 Cambridge Court, stated that the staff repose mentioned
additional inserts that the various developers would be able to include in the bro-
chure and he asked if developers could subscribe to this brochure. Mayor Brandes
stated this would be at the discretion of the Chamber of Commerce as to the charge
and number allowed for each developer. Mr. Beezley stated the report also suggested
the brochure would be mailed out systematically on a weekly schedule with a follow-
up telephone call, and he wanted to know who would pay for this cost. Mayor Brandes
advised that this expense would be borne by the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Beezley
stated he felt that taxpayers should not have to subsidize this type of expenditure.-

Mayor Brandes stated he was concerned about the information in the brochure and
was opposed to it because of the type of development planned for Pleasanton.
