The site is zoned O/C-O (Office-Civic Overlay) Distr~ct <br /> Mayor Mercer declared this item dismissed from the agenda at the written re- <br />quest of the appellant dated April 1, 1981. <br /> <br />MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION <br />Adoption of Ordinance N9. ~70~ approvin~..~he application of the City of Pleasanton <br />to prezone an approximately 43 acre parcel located 830 feet south of the existing <br />City Limit Line between Foothill Road and 1-680 to PUD-Low Density Residential <br />(Intro. 3-24-81, 4-Ayes~.. 1-Absent) <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that Ordinance No. 970 was introduced on March 24, 1981, <br />by a vote of 4-Ayes, 1-Absent, and that it was now in order to adopt the ordinance. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Butler stated that he was absent from the meeting when this <br />ordinance was introduced but that he had reviewed it and was prepared to vote on <br />this item. It was moved by Councilmember Butler, and seconded by Councilmember <br />Kephart, that Ordinance No. 970, approving the application of the City of Pleasan- <br />ton to prezone an approximately 43 acre parcel located 830 feet south of the exist- <br />lug City Limit Line between Foothill Road and 1-680 to PUD-Low Density Residential, <br />be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Methods of Abatement of Non-Conforming Uses~ Re: Interstate Laundry <br /> Mr. Levine presented his report (SR 81:120) dated April 9, 1981, regarding this <br />matter. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated he would now accept comments from the audience relative to <br />this item. <br /> <br /> Ms. Marcia Taylor, 125 Ray Street, spoke in oppositing to having laundries in <br />the C-S District and stated she felt that Interstate Laundry should be relocated <br />as soon as possible for the health, safety, and welfare of the surrounding resi- <br />dential area. <br /> <br /> Ms. Linda Gavarino, 159 Ray Street, stated she supports the position of the <br />previous speaker, and feels it is hazardous to live with a nuclear laundry in such <br />close proximity. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jerry Cohen, Science Applications, Inc., 1811 Santa Rita Road, advisor to <br />Interstate Laundry, stated he was concerned about allegations that the laundry <br />posed a health hazard to the surrounding area. He presented a written report re- <br />garding some perspectives on the Interstate Laundry and its Comparative low threat <br />of danger in relation to other types of businesses. He concluded by stating that <br />at no time in the history of the laundry had the license limits ever been exceeded. <br /> <br /> Councilmember' Butler stated that at the t/me the use permit was heard the most <br />telling argument was that this area is not suitable for an industrial laundry. <br />Councilmember Butler stated he was not sure what better zoning could be used for <br />a commercial laundry, and that if C-S is not appropriate zoning then why did <br />Council expand commercial service in this area. Councilmember Butler advised <br />that Council recently affirmed uses in the C-S District. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Mohr stated she felt that industrial laundries should be eliminated <br />from C-S zoning, independent from radioactivity - radioactivity is an emotional <br />issue; and that whether or not the concern is valid the neighbors around Interstate <br /> <br /> 7. 4/10/81 <br /> <br /> <br />
