3O5 <br /> <br /> Laundry have a genuine fear for their safety and it should be addressed. She <br /> added that she would have no fear living next to such a business. Councilmember <br /> Mohr stated she felt that radioactive businesses should be considered and possibly <br /> not allowed within certain limits of residential zoning. Councilmember Mohr <br /> stated she was not ready to initiate any action to force Interstate Laundry to <br /> relocate at this time, and felt that C-S zoning uses and radioactive uses should <br /> be referred to the Planning Commission for review and recommendation. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Kephart stated that the Council had recently reviewed all uses <br /> in each zoning category and that it had been difficult for Council to agree on <br /> the particular allowable and permitted uses. He questioned that the Planning <br /> Commission had more expertise to recommend changes to the various uses in the <br /> zoning categories, and felt that little would be gained from the review. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated he questioned the category of industrial laundries in the <br /> C-S District and felt all uses should be reviewed at one time in this zoning dis- <br /> trict. <br /> <br /> After further discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Mohr, and seconded by <br /> Mayor Mercer, to request a report from the Planning Commission giving recommenda-. <br /> tions on which approach would be most beneficial from its point of view for remov- <br /> ing the conflict created by the nuclear laundry being adjacent to residential uses <br /> including: (1) modification of the zoning code to eliminate industrial laundry from <br /> the C-S (Commercial Service) zone; (2) modification of the code to eliminate nuclear <br /> related uses from the C-S (Commercial Service) zone; (3) establish minimum distance <br /> requirements from residential uses for industrial laundry use, warehouse-type use, <br /> and nuclear related. uses; amd (4) review all allowed and permitted uses in the C-S <br /> (Commercial Service) zoning district. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Mr. Levine presented his report (SR 81:118) dated April 9, 1981, regarding <br /> Elimination of Substantial Non-Conforming Uses. <br /> <br /> After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Butler, and seconded by Council- <br /> member Kephart, instructing the City Attorney to prepare a draft ordinance to <br /> initiate an amendment to the zoning code to amend Title II, Chapter 2, Article 23 <br /> to add an appropriate provision for abating substantial non-conforming uses. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> SPECIAL REPORTS <br /> There were no Special Reports presented at this meeting. <br /> <br /> REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br />· Actions Take~ by the Board of Adjustment,_Design Review Board, and.
