It was moved by Councilmember Wood, and seconded by Councilmember Mohr, that Resolution No. 81-98, after hearing no objections at the public hearing, authorize the appropriate staff members to proceed with the abatement of the nuisance caused by noxious or dangerous weeds growing on certain properties in the City of Pleasan- ton as more particular set forth in Exhibit A to Resolution No. 81-71, be adopted. Mayor Mercer declared the public hearing open on this item. Mr. Jack Hock, representing Kaiser Sand and Gravel, stated he concurred with staff recommendations for approval of the variance, and stated he felt the Board of Adjustment could have made the findings that were indicated in the staff re- commendations. Mr. Heck advised that other structures in the area are greater in height; that there are no objections by the Fire Department; there is no danger to surrounding properties; and that the structure will not be detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare of the community. He urged Council to make the neces- sary findings to grant the variance. Mayor Mercer suggested that trees be planted as a buffer strip. Mr. Hock stated that trees had been plated before but that not all of them had lived so he thought maybe a fence would be a better solution.
