449

Mayor Butler declared the public hearing open on the application and the nega-
tive declaration.

Mr. Jim Stratton, Manager of Vorelco, 7106 Johnson Drive, stated that basically
he is in favor of this application. He asked Council support on a matter that is
in the hand of the assessment district engineers for design and relocation of the
Alamo Canal. He stated the present Cam21 runs due north and south but the engineers
have shown a canal that comes easterly under Stoneridge Drive and back to the present
canal, which absorbs several acres of land owned by Vorelco. He stated that Alameda
County Flood Control is unaware of the study for realignment of the canal and are not
in favor of a turn in the canal. Mr. Stratton stated that Vorelco would like to sell
some of this land but could not do so under the present situation. He stated they
need to know what is going to happen to this property as soon as possible. Mr.
Stratton requested Council to consider painting a yellow line on Johnson Drive for
better controlled traffic lanes.

Mayor Butler presented a letter from Kenneth C. Scheidig, 2340 Tice Valley Blvd.,
Walnut Creek, on behalf of the Dillingham Corporation, expressing support for the re-
commendation of the City staff and Planning Commission for approval of this item.

No one in the audience spoke in opposition to the application or the negative
declaration.

There being no further testimony, Mayor Butler declared the public hearing closed
on the application and the negative declaration.

Mr, Warnick stated that the City has hired the firm of Mark Thomas to review traf-
fic studies and possible improvements to be done as part of the proposed North
Pleasanton assessment district, including construction of the interchange at Stone-
ridge and 1-680. Alternate designs are being used in determining eosts, including a
design requiring realignment of the Alamo Canal. He explained that this is not neces-
sarily the final design; that the City has not started the final detail work yet.
Such work normally follows Council approval of a petition to create an assessment
· Cit '
district It is the y s hope to have Council approve a petition in May and to
begin engineering studies that will determine which is the most appropriate design,
but that completion of these studies is probably six months away. Mr. Warnick stated
he would have the Staff Traffic Committee review the possibility of having a yellow
line painted on Johnson Drive.

It was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by Councilmember Mohr, that
Resolution No. 82-141, determining on the basis of a review of initial environmental
study done for this project, that no significant environmental impact would occur as
Cit '
outlined in the y s guidelines and that a negative declaration is appropriate to
rezone three parcels of land (Parcels A, B, and C, Parcel Map 2566) totalling approxi-
mately 16.7 acres from the I-G (General Industrial) District to the P.U.D. (Planned
Unit Development) General and Limited Industrial District, these parcels are located
as follows: (1) 10.6 acres immediately south of the Clorox research facility on
Johnson Drive, excluding the southeast approximately 2.75 acre portion; (2) 5.6 acres
between Johnson Drive and Stoneridge Drive east of 1-680; and (3) 3.2 acres south of
Stoneridge Drive, east of 1-680 just north of the wastewater treatment facility of
the Dublin San Ramon Services District, be adopted.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Mercer, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Butler
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

5. 4/27/82
