Open from 6-14-83) <br /> Mr. Harris presented his report (SR 83:262) dated July 6, 1983, regarding this <br /> matter. <br /> <br /> Mayor Butler stated this item had been continued from the meeting of June 14, <br /> 1983. He declared the continued public hearing open on the appeal and the mitigated <br /> negative declaration. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wilson Viar, representing Holiday Inns, Memphis, Tennessee, presented a brief <br /> film to the Council on various other Holiday Inn hotels constructed in different <br /> locations, and informing Council of the image and flavor of the company. He presented <br /> an amended proposal for the 249 unit project, including architectural concept, design <br /> description, program brief, area calculations, and architectural plans. He stated the <br /> proposed savings and loan building has been eliminated which allows for more parking, <br /> landscaping, and better circulation. He stated the height of the complex has been <br /> lowered to six stories, i~Stead of seven stories as originally designed. He stated <br /> that if the project is approved, construction would begin this fall and with an ex- <br /> pected completion date of the first quarter of 1985, and will be constructed for cash. <br /> He stated he concurred with the staff report and all conditions imposed therein. He <br /> stated that Holiday Inns will contribute $50,000 cash to the Fire Department to be <br /> used for equipment and furnishings. Mr. Viar stated he felt this project would be of <br /> benefit to the community and would increase revenue for the city, <br /> <br /> Mr. Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, stated he felt the parking should be under- <br /> ground which would allow for more grass and trees. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tom Terrill, representing Reynolds and Brown, asked if this property is in the <br /> assessment district for the North Pleasanton area. Staff advised that it is in the <br /> fire and water assessment district. <br /> <br /> Mr. Viar rebutted the concern of the opponent by stating that undergound parking <br /> is cost-prohibitive, and that guests prefer surface parking. He stated that addi- <br /> tional landscaping has been included in the amended proposal. <br /> <br /> There being no further testimony, Mayor Butler declared the public hearing closed <br /> on the appeal and the mitigated negative declaration. <br /> <br /> 4. 7/12/83 <br /> <br /> <br />
