103 'I am always very excited when our citizens become involved in Civic affairs. My record, as can be read, will indicate a high-level of citizen participation in local decisions. I am particularly pleased that we have about 180 citizens continuing to participate in the General Plan Review. 'I expressly want the Pleasanton citizens who are involved in the General Plan to understand that my feelings of their participation are ones of thanks and appreciation for all of their efforts. In no way were my remarks directed at their fine efforts'" Councilmember Wood requested that a letter dated May 23, 1983, from Mayor Butler to Mr. John Innes, Chairman of the General Plan Review Committee, regarding this issue, be made a part of the record. Mayor Butler's letter read as follows: "I have received your letter of May 13, 1983, and I thank you for your comments. While I have no intention of interjecting my views into the personal comments of another Councilman, I feel certain observations may be in order. "First, you may have mistaken criticism of CBG for criticism of the Committee's work. I dontt believe that was meant. "Second, no member of the Council has suggested changing the objectives or scope of work of the Committee. I believe the commitment to the Com- mittee's functions can easily be seen in the funding of the consultant working with you. I have stated several times in the past that I think we have asked you to do a very large and important task, and that I am anxious to have your recommendations as input to major decisions affecting the planning for a very large part of Pleasantongs future business expansion. "Please donTt hesitate regarding any aspect of the Committeets functions you wish. In the meantime, I urge you to keep up your excellent progress." After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Wood, and seconded by Council- member Mohr, stating the City Council's vote of confidence to the Steering Committee and the entire General Plan Review Committee for their commitment to the Committee's function. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Mercer, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Butler NOES: None ABSENT: None Councilmember Brandes stated this issued should be laid to rest and everyone get on with the work to be done. CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS Mayor Butler made appointments to the various Commissions, Boards, and Committee effective May 1983, for Councilmembers. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Mr. Curt Altschul, Chairperson for the Citizens for Balanced Growth, took exception to the remarks read by Councilmember Mercer earlier in his statement, relative to the C.B.G. He stated that members of that committee represented all cities in the Valley because of the valley-wide impact of Pleasanton's industrial growth on the entire area. 4. 5/24/83
