271 <br /> <br /> Ms. Fran Caudle, one of the flood victims, told how the firemen rescued her. <br /> She stated her home was so badly damaged she is not able to return to it yet. <br /> <br /> Mr. Joe Hill, Fire Chief, publicly thanked Police Chief Eastman and the Police <br /> Department for their fine assistance during the storm. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fred Bettler, 251 Kottinger, stated he has been a resident of Pleasanton <br /> Gardens for 5~ years. He stated he was grateful to the Police and Fire Departments <br /> for their assistance. He requested Council to give this problem a very high priority <br /> and to be honest in their concern for solutions. <br /> <br /> Mr. Harrington asked that someone from the City look at the existing sand bagging <br />arrangement and also to see what other arrangements might be taken to protect the <br />residents and their property at this point until comprehensive measures can be taken. <br />He stated he felt more sand bags are needed and that some type of barrier should be <br />placed at each apartment to relieve the flooding situation. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Brandes asked Mr. Harrington to inform Council of any immediate <br />needs of the Pleasanton Garden residents. <br /> <br /> Mr. Walker advised that the City will look into all possibilities to solve the <br /> immediate problems related to flooding conditions at Pleasanton Gardens. <br /> <br /> After discussion, Council instructed staff to prepare a report for review at the <br />next Council meeting, related to interim and long term solutions to the flooding <br />conditions at Pleasanton Gardens. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bill Eastman, Chief of Police, thanked the City Council and staff for their <br />response to this emergency situation. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />Appeal of the City Council to a decision of the Planning Commission in approving <br />UP-82-24, application of James Cross and Texaco~ Inc.~ for conditional use permit <br />approval to operate a service station~ not including the sale of 5asoline~ at 44 <br />Mission Drive. .Z~ning for the property is C-F (Commercial Freeway) District <br /> Mr. Harris presented his report (SR 83:47) dated Fkbruary 1, 1983, regarding this <br />matter. <br /> <br /> Mayor Butler declared the public hearing open on this item. <br /> <br /> Mr. James Cross, 821 Sylvaner Drive, stated he has been a resident of Pleasanton <br />for nine years, and is as concerned as Council is regarding the restructuring and <br />upgrading of this particular property. He stated it is his intention to maintain this <br />property in an orderly fashion and to provide a professional automotive service to the <br />community. He stated his business would create an environment to blend in with the <br />surrounding area. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Brandes stated his concern relative to this application had been <br />with its aesthetics in this neighborhood. He asked Mr. Cross if he would object to <br />removal of the canopy. Mr. Cross stated he felt the canopy would ser~e a useful pur- <br />pose but he would remove it if so instructed by Council, but added he felt it wo~ld <br />blend in with the surrounding area and with the building itself. <br /> <br /> Mr. H. Gustafson, 2612 San Luis Court, stated he has known Jim Cross for several <br />years and felt he would operate a good business that would serve the community well. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Kroetch, 818 Sylvaner, stated he has known Mr. Cross for nine years and <br />knows his involvement with car repairs. He stated he felt Mr. Cross will run a busi- <br />ness operation that will be a credit to the City and one that everyone can be proud of. <br /> <br /> 6. 2/8/83 <br /> <br /> <br />
