295

MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCILMEMBERS
Councilmember Wood requested that the Traffic Committee look into the possibility
of installing a traffic signal on Valley Avenue at Hanson to replace the four-way stop
sign, and also to consider placing a four-way stop sign at Paseo Santa Cruz and Valley
Avenue. Councilmember Brandes concurred that the intersection at Paseo Santa Cruz and
Valley Avenue is very dangerous and he supported Councilmember WoodTs request for a
review 6f this situation.

Councilmember Wood stated that at the recent League of California Cities Conference
he was made aware of a sidewalk program that could possibly save the City money in the
long range planning for maintenance of sidewalks. He advised that he has been in con-
tact with the Company who presented the program, and that they will meet with him to
further discuss the merits of such a program for Pleasanton. He requested that City
staff also attend this meeting.

Councilmember Wood requested a copy of a recent traffic injury report in order to
get response times and type of medical assistance provided and who provided it. He
advised the reason for this request is to suggest an incentive program for field ser-
vices personnel as well as police and fire personnel incases of injury and other types
of accidents.

Councilmember Wood advised that Jack Swanson, formerly with Hacienda Business Park,
has been nominated to the Pic Board representing the private sector.

Councilmember Mohr asked the sweeping schedule for First Street, stating there is
a lot of gravel on this street. Mr. Warnick advised that First Street is swept on
Friday but he would investigate to see if it should be swept sooner.

Councilmember Mohr stated that she met last week with the owners of the old Mohr
house to discuss the possibility of this structure being donated to the City. She
advised that the owner has graciously offered to donate it to the City. She requested
Council concurrence to direct staff to explore what it would take to move the house,
what would be the most suitable and logical location to site it, approximate cost of
renovation, and type of funding for such a project. She suggested Council refer this
matter to the Park and Recreation Commission for their recommendation as to the most
appropriate site. She stated that Council should also consider whether or not the
City of Pleasanton should be the recipient of the gift; should a non-profit corporation
be established such as was formed for construction of the Council Chambers; or should
alternative means of funding be explored.

Mrs. Bengtson, Director of Parks and Community Services, stated that she and Curt
Stewart, from the Department of Building Inspection, were among those who inspected
the Mohr house last Friday. She advised the building appears to be in relatively
good condition. She stated that Mr. Stewart felt the building is in structurally sound
condition. Mrs. Bengtson stated that from what they could gather the house is struc-
tural!y sound and in good enough condition to be moved and renovated without any big
problems. She advised that the building is larger than Century House, therefore would
be able to accommodate functions of greater numbers.

Mr. Bob Graham, 3974 Mt. Rani~r Court, stated the Mohr house is an architectural
nugget and a prize for our community, and if the City lets it go they can never get
it back. He felt it is well worth saving.

Ms. Ann Doss, 3840-F Vineyard Avenue, stated the Mohr house was constructed in
the late 1860's, and is one of the few large historical homes remaining in the Valley.
She reviewed the renovation of the house which took pace in 1940. She stated this is
a building of great historical value with a style that is appropriate for City func-
tional use.

4. 10/2/84
