Use of Pleasanton Fairgrounds for Increased Horse Racing Events <br /> Vice Mayor Brandes stated there has been lots of publicity regarding pos- <br /> sible use of the Pleasanton Fairgrounds for increased horse racing events. He <br /> advised that Council has gone on record in opposition to any expansion of the <br /> horse racing season in Pleasanton. It was moved by Vice Mayor Brandes, and <br /> seconded by Councilmember Mohr, that a letter be transmitted to the Board of <br /> Supervisors expressing Pleasanton City Council's opposition to further expand- <br /> ing horse racing at the Fairgrounds. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Mohr, Wood, and Vice Mayor Brandes <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilmember Butler and Mayor Mercer <br /> <br />Hilton Hotel Color Scheme <br /> Vice Mayor Brandes asked what could be done about the pink color on the <br />new Hilton Hotel. Mr. Swift advised that management of the Hilton Hotel are <br />not satisfied with the color and will be painting the structure a different <br />color. He stated that they will present color swatches to City staff, Plan- <br />ning Commission, and City Council for approval before painting the building. <br />Mr. Swift presented the new proposed color scheme, including a beige-tone pan- <br />el section with bronzed glass and matching aluminum window frame. <br /> <br />Stop Signs at the InterseCtion of Hansen and Calle Reynoso <br /> Vice Mayor Brandes stated that earlier tonight Council approved a four-way <br />stop at the intersection of Paseo Santa Cruz and Calle Reynoso, and that he <br />felt the same action should be taken for the intersection of Hansen and Calle <br />Reynoso because of the extremely hazardous condition at this location. It was <br />moved by Vice Mayor Brandes that a four-way stop sign be established at the <br />intersection of Hansen and Calle Reynoso. <br /> <br /> The motion died for lack of a second. <br /> <br /> After discussion, Council instructed staff to refer this matter to the <br />Staff Traffic Committee for review and recommendation, and to report back to <br />Council at the meeting of August 20, 1985. Council also instructed staff to <br />take any emergency action necessary to make this intersection safe until fur- <br />ther action is taken by Council. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br />Downtown Business Assessment District <br /> Councilmember Mohr presented her report dated August 1, 1985, regarding <br />this matter. She stated that a Committee of Downtown Business people had met <br />regularly to work out a compromise and she felt their recommendations accom- <br />plish that. She commended the Committee for their dedication and hard work. <br />She advised there has been no opposition to their recommendations, but that an <br />opportunity should be made at this time for anyone in the audience to speak on <br />this matter. <br /> <br /> No one in the audience spoke in favor of or in opposition to the proposed <br />Downtown Business Assessment District recommendations. There were no written <br />protests in connection with this matter presented to Council or the City <br />Clerk. <br /> <br /> Mr. Swift advised that Council can initiate an amendment to'the Downtown <br />Business Assessment District Ordinance tonight, but it is possible that public <br /> <br /> s s-s-8s 8: 8 <br /> <br /> <br />
