291 <br /> Councilmember Wood asked staff to also look at the possibility of a left <br /> turn 9teen arrow on the First Street signal at Neal Street. <br /> <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Councilmember Wood stated that he has received a letter from ACTES/ACAP <br /> regardin9 an insurance problem, and that he has submitted the letter to the <br /> City Attorney for review and recommendation. <br /> <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Mr. Earl Randall, 6610 Hansen Drive, stated he has addressed Council <br /> *-- several times before regarding speeding on Hansen Drive; and that the problem <br /> continues to exist. He suggested there may not be enough police personnel. <br /> He advised there need to be more control of this situation. Mayor Brandes <br /> advised that the Pleasanton Police Department has been added to dramatically <br /> in the past few years, and that speeding is a problem everywhere. He stated <br /> that the Traffic Committee could look at this problem to see if additional <br /> measures could be taken to reduce speeding in this area, and that the Police <br /> Department might increase patrol on this street for awhile. Mayor Brandes <br /> suggested that Mr. Randall attend the budget sessions in June to further dis- <br /> cuss this problem. <br /> <br />CO Mr. Mark Curtis, 6025 Via De Los Cerros, representing his parents who live <br /> next door to Mr. Randall, stated there is a speeding problem on Hansen Drive; <br />0') he has clocked drivers going 47 MPH on this street. He advised that the stop <br />~ signs have done little to stop speeders, and that something definitely needs <br />Im! to be done to alleviate this problem. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tom Terrill, 6601 Owens Drive, representing the Chamber of Commerce, <br /> requested Council endorsement of a study regarding the viability of a conven- <br /> tion and visitors bureau in Pleasanton. He stated this could be a vehicle to <br /> make use of the hotels within the City, and would also increase revenue to the <br /> City. After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Butler, and seconded by <br /> Councilmember Wood, endorsing the concept of a Convention and Visitors Bureau <br /> in Pleasanton, and directing staff to get involved with the Chamber of Com- <br /> merce to study the merits of such a bureau. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Brandes <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: Councilmember Mercer <br /> <br /> Ms. Nancy Schick, 1151 Blanc Court, stated she felt it is a misuse of <br /> public funds for the City to pay an employee's dues in an organization that is <br /> discriminatory; namely the Rotary Club. Mayor Brandes stated that department <br /> heads are encouraged to get involved in service organizations of the City; he <br /> felt this is beneficial to both the City and to the organization. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mary Casper, 1166 Bordeaux, stated she supports the comments of Ms. <br /> Schick. She stated the City is not the only abuser. She added the Rotary <br /> Club is a discriminatory group and should not be supported. <br /> <br /> Ms. Myna Wilson, 3263 Cheryl Circle, asked when construction would begin <br /> on the tennis courts at Hopyard and Valley, and would they be lighted at <br /> night. Mr. Walker advised that construction is due to begin next Monday, and <br /> that the courts will be lit at night. Ms. Wilson stated that she is employed <br /> with AT&T and is concerned about a "no smoking" ordinance. She asked if the <br /> City has reviewed this matter and what action needs to be taken to adopt an <br /> <br /> - 5 - 4-15-86 <br /> <br /> <br />
