The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mercer, Mohr, and Wood
NOES: Mayor Brandes
ABSENT: None

Councilmember Mercer stated there is a problem with lighting and loitering
at the Game Station on Valley Avenue, and asked if conditions of approval
could alleviate the problem. Mr. Swift advised that staff has been in contact
with the owners of the Game Station and that more appropriate lighting is
being required. He stated the owners of the property stated they could not
afford to have two adults on the premises on weekends, which is a condition of
approval. He stated that consideration is being given to the hiring of a
security force to cover the entire area. Mayor Brandes stated that the Police
Department is aware of the problem at this location and has increased patrol
in the area.

Councilmember Mercer asked staff to determine whether the medians at Ber-
nal Avenue and Valley Avenue are to be maintained by the City or the Koll
Company.

Councilmember Mercer requested staff to contact the County to remove weeds
between Valley Avenue and their fence before the Fair starts, as this is a
fire hazard.

Councilmember Wood presented a petition, signed by 38 citizens and the
Stepping Stone staff, which read as follows:

"This letter is a request for assistance in the re-establishment of
the Pleasanton Stepping Stone Pre-School located at 287 West Angela
Street. The school has been in existence since 1970, and is li-
censed for 84 children.

"Ideally, we would like to move the 1300 square foot home itself to
another site in Pleasanton. Failing that, we would like to rent or
lease another facility.

"Various churches have been contacted, as have several agencies and
community leaders, all to no avail.

"The City of Pleasanton needs its pre-schools--every one of them.
When one closes, it puts an enormous burden on the other schools--
the waiting lists are tremendous.

"When you consider this request, please keep the importance of our
children in mind. With the increasing pressures our children are up
against in the schools, our pre-schools help prepare them for these
years, making them both educationally and socially stronger.

"Thank you for your anticipated cooperation."

After discussion, Council instructed staff to prepare a report for consid-
eration in thirty days, regarding possible solutions for re-establishment of
the Pleasanton Stepping Stone Pre-School.

Councilmember Wood asked when further consideration would be given to the
pedestrian overcrossing for Foothill High School.
