293 <br /> <br />NOES: Councilmember Brandes <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer asked Councilmember Brandes if he would like to change his <br />vote to make a unanimous vote for the new Councilmember. Councilmember Bran- <br />des stated that while he has nothing against the candidate, he would not <br />change his vote because he felt the issue should go to Special Election. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer congratulated Mr. Wilson on his appointment. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wilson stated it is with sincerity and humbleness that he accepts the <br />Councilmember appointment. He advised the appointment to Council will rest <br />heavily on his shoulders; he feels a responsibility to the people of Pleasan- <br />ton and will do his best to serve the community. <br /> <br /> After discussion, Council determined to schedule a meeting on December 8, <br />1986, 5:00 p.m., in the Pleasanton Council Chambers, to swear in Mr. Wilson as <br />a City Councilmember. <br /> <br />Naming of New Library <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that one year ago a very special person, George <br />Spiliotopoulos died. He stated he would like to have the new library named in <br />George's honor. <br /> <br /> After discussion, it was moved by Mayor Mercer, and seconded by Council- <br />member Butler, that Resolution No. 86-562, naming the new library the George <br />A. Spiliotopoulos Library, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> There were no City Council Committee Reports presented at this meeting. <br /> <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Ms. Sara Walls, 525 Junipero Street, read a prepared statement expressing <br />her disagreement with the comments of Councilmembers Butler and Mohr as pres- <br />ented in the Herald and Times newspapers. She stated she was very interested <br />in the Councilmember vacancy but was unable to attend the interview on Satur- <br />day morning. She advised that other places of business reschedule interviews <br />when it is inconvenient for an applicant to be present at the interview. She <br />stated she has been involved with many organizations in the City; and that she <br />is a very responsible and dedicated person. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Butler stated the comments were not made against her per- <br />sonally, and he apologized for any hard feelings this may have caused. <br /> <br /> Mrs Karin Frick, 1955 Leavenworth, San Francisco, representing the East <br />Bay Regional Park District, asked that item 4e - Adoption of Ordinance No. <br />1288, application to prezone the Ferreri property and other parcels on both <br />sides of Old Dublin Canyon Road, be continued to the meeting of December 16, <br />1986, to allow for discussion with the Liaison Committee on this matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ferreri, applicant, stated this item had three public hearings over <br />the last three/four months, and he felt this was ample time to respond to any <br /> <br /> 5 - 12-2-86 <br /> <br /> <br />
