177
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Wilson, and Mayor Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilmember Brandes

Councilmember Brandes re-entered the meeting at 9:50 p.m.

PUD-83-10-4M/83-12-3M/86-15-2M, Application of the City of Pleasanton for a
major modification to approved development plans for three low-density
residential projects to close a street serving the development, Cameron
Avenue, prior to its intersection with Kamp Drive, located generally in the
area bounded by Mohr Avenue, Martin Avenue and Cameron Avenue. Zoning for the
property is PUD (Planned Unit Development)-Low Density Residential District
Mr. Swift presented his report (SR 87:252) dated June 2, 1987, regarding
this matter.

Mayor Mercer declared the public hearing open on this item.

Mr. George Szeman, 3617 Kamp Drive, stated he favored the closing of Cam-
eron Avenue between Kamp Drive and Mohr Avenue: the streets are badly planned;
there will be safety problems in the future; traffic will increase in the area
from proposed development, schools, etc.; and the potential increase of traf-
fic specifically on Kamp Drive.

Mr. Chuck Steel, 1833 Rheem Drive, stated that safety of children must be
considere; he favors closing Cameron Avenue.

Ms. Janet Gorlow, 3637 Kamp Drive, stated she is in favor of closing Cam-
eron Avenue because oF the potential development of housing and schools in the
area, which will create a dangerous situation for children.

Ms. Shirley Lauer, 2221 Martin Avenue, presented a letter to Council from
herself and her husband, requesting that Cameron Drive remain open as planned
as part of an established circulation pattern determined after years of
discussion.

Mr. Bob Cooper, Trenery Drive, presented a letter from James Fazzari~~
requesting that Cameron Avenue be kept open, and that Trenery Drive and I~l~f~q
Avenue be closed. Mr. Cooper urged Council to accept staff recommendations.
He added that the proposal of a school on Busch Road makes no sense; there is
need for a school in the southern part of town instead.

Mr. Bill Selway, 2313 Martin Avenue, stated he wants the area to remain
rural; he favors leaving Cameron Avenue open as planned for the last three or
four years.

Ms. Kathy Selway, 2313 Martin Avenue, stated that any barriers placed at
the end of a street are unsightly and aesthetically unpleasing, and also col-
lect trash and debris. She added that a middle school in the area next to a
lake and the quarry pits could be potentially dangerous.

Mr. Malcolm West, 3653 Kamp Drive, stated he is in favor of Cameron Drive
being made a cul-de-sac; if that street is to be open then Trenery and Martin
should also be open. He added that Kamp Drive is a residential street not
like Mohr and Martin.

7 - 6-2-87
