Mayor Mercer in-
structed staff to refer this matter to the Planning Commission for review and
recommendation.

Discussion of Pleasanton School Site
Councilmember Wilson stated that Mayor Mercer asked him to meet with rep-
resentatives of the School District to discuss the 7.2 acre parcel of the
Pleasanton School site that the City now leases and uses as a ball field. He
advised that the School District has offered to sell the site to the City for
$1 million, to be paid in ten (10) annual payments of $100,000 each. The City
now has a 60-year lease on the property; with 42 years remaining on the lease
time.

Council discussed ensued regarding the legality of the lease, and whether
or not it was appropriate to spend taxpayers money for this purchase when the
City has a lease on the property.

It was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by Mayor Mercer, that
Resolution No. 87-556, declining the offer as set forth in a letter from Dr.
Bill James to buy the 7.2 acre upper field parcel of Pleasanton School, and
directing that there be no staff analysis regarding the legality of the lease,
be adopted.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Wilson, and Mayor Mercer
NOES: Councilmember Mohr
ABSENT: None

Appointment of Member to Pleasanton Housin9 Authority Board of Commissioners
Mayor Mercer stated that at the last City Council meeting Council dis-
cussed the fact that Ron Smith's term on the Pleasanton Housing Authority
Board of Commissioners is expiring. Mayor Mercer stated he reviewed the re-
cent candidate applications as well the reappointment of Ron Smith on this
Commission. It was his recommendation that Ron Smith be reappointed for a
four year term.

It was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by Councilmember Mohr,
that Resolution No. 87-557, confirming the reappointment of Ron Smith as a
member of the Pleasanton Housing Authority Board of Commissioners for a four
year term, said term to expire January 25, 1992, be adopted.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Wilson, and Mayor Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

- 5 12-15-87
