G?
Mr. Swift presented his report (SR 87:508) dated November 17, 1987,
regarding this matter.

Mayor Mercer declared the public hearing open on the item.

Mr. Tony Soby, President of Mission Park Homeowners Association, stated he
felt Junipero should be treated in the same way as the end of Main Street;
right turn only to encourage only those people who plan to shop to use the
street and to discourage the street from being used as a through street. He
stated there will be increased traffic from the Lund Ranch development as well
as the shopping center. He felt the Lund Ranch access should be from Old Ber-
nal Avenue.

Mr. Kevin Shoenfeld, 309 Lone Oak, President of Oak Park Homeowners As-
sociation, stated this group feels there should be some kind of intersection
at Junipero; traffic patterns will be changed with the full use of this
street. He felt traffic should be spread out to other streets. He stated
there is a vacant parcel of property on the southeast corner of Junipero and
Sunol which should be taken into consideration as to its potential development
and traffic impacts.

Mr. George Christensen, 298 Junipero, stated there will be need for traf-
fic control on Junipero such as stop signs or speed bumps. He stated there
will be more vehicles from the Lund development which will increase the need
for safety measures to protect children in the area.

Mr. LaFarr Lasseter, 186 Junipero, stated the intersection of Junipero and
Sonoma is a dangerous intersection. He advised that Mission Street is 60 feet
wide, Somona is 45 feet wide, and that Junipero is 37 feet wide, making it the
least desirable as a through street. In terms of distance from Sunol
Boulevard to the residential homes, Junipero is the first street and is only
200 feet from Sunol. He expressed concern about safety.

Ms. Karen Keesling, 187 Junipero, expressed concern regarding signaliza-
tion at Junipero; she felt Somona would be a better place in light of statis-
tics which show there have been seven accidents at Sonoma and Sunol. She
stated a signal at Junipero would create three stop lights in three blocks;
Mission, Bernal and Junipero. She added that Junipero residents would be ad-
versely impacted because of the width of the street and the amount of traffic
that will be generated.

Mr. Dave Overstreet, 210 Lone Oak, stated that the proposed Raley's Market
will be at the northeast part of the developer; Mission would be a better
street for the flow of traffic. He stated to have a signal light at Junipero
does not seem reasonable; the driveway into the center should be the sig-
nalization point.

The following persons spoke in opposition to the appeal:

Mr. Mike Murphy, Project Manager of Oak Hill Shopping Center, stated he
had submitted a plan to the Planning Department; the application for the traf-
fic signalization is actually Connolly Development's. He stated Connolly
Development met with the homeowners, everyone wanted a different solution. He
advised that Design Review Board and Planning staff stated they could not make
a decision unless they had a traffic analysis. He stated he went along with

5 - 11-17-87
