Mayor Mercer feels that a $25 million
buy-in to a multi-billion dollar system is an awful cheap buy-in,
and would like to ask Council permission to ask the City Attorney
to investigate joining with Contra Costa County if they are going
to sue or joining with Contra Costa if they are considering
pulling out, so we can try to apply as much pressure as Contra
costa County is trying to do with their Antioch line. I would
hate to see our line slip in the priority system because we
didn't create a stink as well.

It was moved by Mayor Mercer and seconded by Councilmember
-- Brandes to authorize the City Attorney to join with Contra Costa
in their action against BART.

Councilmember Mohr indicated we have looked at this issue
before from the threat of lawsuits and we didn't get anywhere,
but maybe we have more incentive now. Inderbitzen, 62 West Neal Street, Pleasanton,
indicated he was chairman of the task force on the feasibility of
the CDA. He thanked the Mayor for the nice comments, but wished
to give credit for the report to Jim Walker and Chandler Lee. He
briefly reviewed the report and indicated he' would answer any
questions Council might have.

Councilmember Wilson indicated Mission Park shopping center
site was included in the area, but there is no recommendation for
widening Sunol Boulevard. Would the Committee skip this or does
it not feel it necessary to widen Sunol? Mr. Inderbitzen
indicated this is one of the issues to be considered as we go
through the process.

- 7 - 10-6-87
