He said he received a letter stating
that the use of leaf blowers and parking lot sweepers would be
prohibited between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. He stated
those kind of hours would virtually put him out of business,
along with other similar operations. He said he has checked the
noise levels of those machines and they were within the
acceptable range of 55 dbs, whereas 70 dbs is unconsidered
unacceptable. He said if the proposed ordinance goes into
effect, it would eliminate almost all of his Pleasanton
business. He acknowledged that the complaint regarding his
business centered around the Amador Center on Santa Rita Road
and that he would be willing to try and work out a solution.

Floyd Mascedo, 6856 Singletree Court, Pleasanton, supported
the previous speaker's comments in that he was also in the
cleaning business. In response to a question, he said he did
not know whether a muffler could be put on the equipment to
lessen the noise.

Ron Burkheiser, 1893 Cortez Ct., Pleasanton, stated that
his house is across the street from the Amador Center and that
the noise level of the equipment is very distressing to those
who wish to sleep in the morning. He said the neighborhood
would be willing to work with the businesses regarding this
matter.

Mayor Mercer asked Mr. Burkheiser if he and a
representative from his neighborhood would be willing to work
with staff on this matter. Mr. Burkheiser said he would be
willing to do so.

Mayor Mercer stated that it would be appropriate to have
staff and a representative group work with the businesses to try
to work out an equitable solution, at which time the ordinance
could be changed.

REPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY
item 13a
~guest for Modification of Lon~ Term Agreements with Walter

Page 17 4-5-88

!'
