He asked what the employees have done to deserve this
~ of treatment; he cited the golden rule "do unto others as you would have
them do unto you".

Mr. Richard Riley, Pleasanton resident and City pest control operator,
stated he c~_me to Pleasanton because he felt it is a good place to live; he
can only rent because property is too high for him to buy. He stated he
appreciates the police and fire department but also appreciates the other City
employees and their high standards set in maintaining the City. He hopes they
can continue with this service. He is disappointed that Council is not having
the City Manager following through on the negotiations; he stated that last
year Council premised that the City Manager would be personally involved. He
felt that Martin Luther King day should be observed as it represents equal
rights for all.

Mike K/rig, City employee, stated he has lived in the City 41 years and
has worked for the City 18-1/2 years. It used to be when a prunise was made
it was kept; now it does not seem that way. Sc~e City employees are not in
the 80% projectile as stated in the paper. He stated he is proud to work for
the City, but asked where is the City going.

Tarry Griffith, City employee, stated that the uniforms that employees
are required to wear are extremely hot in the sumnertime and he felt cooler
cotton uniforms should be provided in this season. He stated that City
employees were not conferred with about the uniforms.

Ann Radford, Senior Police Clerk and employee for seven years, stated
employees are getting tired of this problem every year; they want Council
support to get this matter settled so the employees can get on with their
jobs.

Dexter Berry, Support Services, stated he strongly felt employees should
have Martin Luther King birthday as a holiday. Mayor Mercer stated it could
be takan off as a floating holiday. Mr. Berry stated employees asked for the
day off last year as a floating holiday and were not allowed to have it off.

The wife of a City employee stated they moved to Pleasanton because they
wanted to live here; her hu~hand was happy and negotiations were going well.
Now negotiations are not going well and her hu.~hand is unhappy and it affects
their home life. The best working employees are those who know they are
appreciated and shown that through pay and benefits. She stated she was
surprised at the attitude of Councilmember Brandes.

Ruth Zeeb, Police Clerk, asked Council to take a good look at the
training pay for Senior Police Clerks; she did not feel the pay was fair.

Mr. Lynn stated he felt this demonstrates that Councilmember Brandes does
not know what is going on. He stated it was never this way when Mr. Walker
and Mr. Miller did the negotiating. He did not know if the City's negotiator
was the cause of the problem or if it was sc~ else, but there is a
problem. He stated he has lived in Plea-~m~con many years, and was approached
by scee employees to represent them when the Corporation Yard was being phased
out; he now represents the entire Pleasanton City Employees Association.
