He stated he is pretty sure he is <br />not interested now in the Sunol Boulevard extension but he is not <br />convinced that it should be left off the plan. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that when items get left in, somehow they <br />seems to keep surfacing until they gets built. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Mohr stated the City went to a great deal of <br />trouble and expense to take one railroad track out so that there <br />is only one. The City also incurred considerable expense for <br />grade separations. At the time the SP right-of-way was going on <br />the market and the County was going to buy it, she made a fairly <br />strong statement that if anyone was going to own it, it should be <br />the City. She still feels that way. She stated she has some real <br />problems with the thought that the right-of-way is going to end up <br />with surface trackage on it, i.e., light rail or public transit, <br />that are going to cross at grade separations and streets after <br />Council worked so hard to get the SP tracks abandoned. There is a <br />100 foot right-of-way on the WP line that would accommodate a <br />second rail. If the City has a light rail system it should be <br />doubled up with the WP tracks.
