267

when different age groups are offered at separate sites.
It would be convenient to have the program at one
location.
.
2. The facility would be large enough to schedule
multiple classes at one time. All equipment, materials
and supplies would be on hand for easy access and
financial savings.

3. Due to the fact that the existing preschool
buildings need extensive repairs, it seems logical to
consolidate time and money to renovate one newer
facility than to split the resources into two antiguated
buildings.

4. A future goal of the Department of Parks and
Community Services is to build a Community Center in
Amador Valley Community Park that would house the
Pleasanton Preschool Program. There is more logic to
temporarily displacing a city run program (preschool)
during the construction of the Center, than to disrupt
the services of a public, non-profit agency while it
attempts to relocate and establish a new facility site a
second time.

"In conclusion, we hope that you will consider and allow
the Department of Parks and Community Services to
relocate their Pleasanton Preschool program to the
existing library facility. Your support in this matter
would certainly be appreciated."

Mr. Walker advised that several organizations are interested
in using this building.

Mayor Mercer suggested that use of the Old Library Building
be reviewed by the Park and Recreation Commission for its
recommendation to Council.

Mr. Stanley Rathbone, 325 Ray Street, stated he is concerned
about smog and water in this area; he felt there should not be any
more building allowed.

Ms. Ginnie Cooper, Alameda County Librarian, stated that at
the last meeting Council approved a sign for the new library. She
advised that it is the unanimous decision of the Library
Commission that the words "Alameda County Library" should be on
the sign, since the library is a cooperative venture between the
City and the County. Mayor Mercer suggested this matter be
discussed with item 12a on the agenda regarding the contract for
services with Alameda County Library.

- 9 -

10-18-88
