CounCilmember Butler stated that no one on Council would
argue with the objectives and problems of affordable housing but
it is difficult to deal with because of the high base land cost.

Councilmember Brandes stated that if the Redevelopment Plan
of the Community Development Agency is approved by the voters in
June there will be funds available for affordable housing; he
suggested Mr. Aguiar contact someone associated with the CDA to
get further information.

Councilmember Mohr stated that real estate people have access
to housing that is considered lower income.

Mrs. Sharrell Michelotti, 7873 Olive Court, encouraged
Council to give its blessing to establishing a citizens committee
and to give them staff assistance. She suggested that this
citizens committee could also review the housing element of the
General Plan.

Mr. Keith Wardin, 2931 Liberty Drive, speaking on behalf of
the Valley Support Services, which is sponsored by the Bay Area
Support Services in Oakland, stated there is a great need for low
income housing for chronically and mentally ill persons in the
Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton area. He stated these people are
able to live by themselves but are not able to work; they receive
social security checks, which is their only income. He requested
that any planning done by the City of Pleasanton include this need
as a part of the major need for lower income housing. Mr. Wardin
volunteered to work with the citizens committee and with the City
to provide this needed housing.

Mr. Robert Cordtz, 262 West Angela, stated he appreciates
Councilmember Tarver's suggestion of getting support from staff.

Mr. Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, stated he felt it is a
shame that the City can spend money for sports parks and schools
and then cannot provide housing for people to live here; he
supports a citizens committee on affordable housing.

It was moved by Councilmember Tarver, and seconded by
Councilmember Butler, to establish a committee to work with staff
to address how the City might provide more affordable housing.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver, and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

item 6b
Final Report of the Livermore Airport Committee's Recommendations
Mayor Mercer presented the final report of the Airport
Committee's recommendations.

- 7 - 4/04/8 I8
