229

representing the community to come up with a plan in keeping with
the well-designed City of Pleasanton.

Ms. Elaine Buckland, 4132 Suffolk Way, stated the atrocity of
the Gatewood Apartments is right behind her home; she does not
want to see any more projects such as this one in North
Pleasanton. She stated there are many problems associated with
Gatewood; open carports, trees planted 50-100 feet apart, loud
music, etc. She also felt apartments should be not allowed within
the airport control zone. She has concerns about a proposed
school being built in this area. She stated children in high
density areas do not need to be placed near a fast moving street.
She wanted what is decided upon by the citizens to be strictly
enforced.

Mr. Don Perry, 3930 Kral Place, stated there has been a lot
of concern expressed regarding high density. He suggested the
developers could make a worthwhile profit building low density
residential housing.

Ms. Linda Cassens, 4082 Suffolk Way, presented a petition
sign by 82 residents in the Pleasanton Meadows area, which read
as follows:

"I, the undersigned, would like to see the land which is
located on the north side of the Stoneridge Drive, south
of the Arroyo Mocho Canal, and east of the Gatewood
Apartments be designated as medium density. This land
is currently designated as high density. I feel that
the medium density designation would better blend with
the surrounding neighbors backing up to the Arroyo Mocho
to the North of this area. In short, we want the Arroyo
Mocho treated as a street and a smooth transition
between the two sides of the Arroyo Mocho, just as is
proposed in the Stoneridge Drive Specific Plan (Draft-
September 1988) for areas within the specific plan
area."

Mayor Mercer commended the citizens on their input and
courtesy at this meeting.

It was moved by Councilmember Butler, and seconded by
Councilmember Mohr, directing staff to meet with the affected
property owners regarding the Stoneridge Drive Specific Plan,
form a Specific Plan Committee if necessary, and then make
recommendations to the Planning Commission, which in turn will
consider this matter and make recommendations to the City
Council.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver, and Mayor
Mercer

- 13 - 2-7-89
