Councilmember Brandes
stated he felt the trailer park and other homes in this area have
been living with uncertainty long enough and that Council should
eliminate this improvement from the Plan. Councilmember Tarver
stated he cannot agree with the alignment and the option to
make this improvement is so far away that he did not feel it
should be kept in the Specific Plan. Mayor Mercer stated he was
never in favor of the Del Valle Parkway and in his opinion it
would be a waste of money to make any further improvements on this
street. He also felt that the restriping of Main, Spring and
Division Street, the Railroad Street extension, the Sunol
Boulevard Extension, and the parking structures, should be
eliminated from the Specific Plan.

It was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by Mayor
Mercer, that the Del Valle Parkway (Main to Stanley) be removed
from the Specific Plan.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Tarver, and Mayor Mercer
NOES: Councilmembers Butler and Mohr
ABSENT: None

It was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by
Councilmember Butler, that the Sunol Boulevard Extension be
removed from the Specific Plan.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmember Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver, and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

It was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by
Councilmember Butler, that a two story height limit be established
for buildings in the Specific Plan area.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver, and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

Mr. Walker advised that with the elimination of the Sunol
Boulevard Extension there will not be a need to further discuss
the removal of the Fire Station on Railroad Avenue.

Council discussion ensued regarding parking structures.
Councilmember Butler stated he felt it is important to show
Council support of the downtown by putting the parking framework
in place for parking. Councilmembers Brandes, Tarver and Mohr
felt that as long as the City retains the surface potential for
parking structures it can be determined later if and when they are
needed.

- 14 - 1-17-89
