335

Mr. Mercer indicated that he had no objection to funding
$25,000 for the study, but that he objected to receiving a letter
from Mr. Dale Turner stating that they wanted to build a center
and asking for the money to do the study. He mentioned that
before giving them the constituents' tax money, he wanted the City
to be involved in some kind of formal process. He asked Mr.
Colborn and Mr. Edwards to go back and suggest to Mr. Turner to
send a letter to the other cities, inviting them to sit down in a
committee to consider the matter.

Mr. Edwards inquired if the Council would consider supporting
the concept of putting together a Valley-wide committee, after
which a public hearing could be held to determine if the project
is worth the $25,000 being requested.

Ms. Mohr inquired if Las Positas College could possibly be
included as a fourth member; considering that it is a location
that seems to be one of the prime choices, the College should
certainly be involved in the process.

Mr. Edwards replied that a letter was sent to their Board
asking them to support the study.

It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Mr. Brandes, that
the City of Pleasanton support the concept of having a Valley-wide
study for the construction of a Performing Arts Center without
contributing any funding at this time.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Item 8c
Children's Safety Fair

This item was removed from the Agenda.

9. CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS

There were no City Council Committee Reports presented at
this meeting.

10. MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION
Item 10a
Resolution Making Application to LAFCO for Annexation No. 131
(Shadow Cliffs Park)

Ms. Bengtson presented her report regarding the matter.

Ms. Maxine Terner, Chief of Parkland Planning, East Bay
Regional Park District (EBRPD), encouraged the Council to initiate
the Shadow Cliffs annexation so this could proceed concurrently

-12-

9-19-89
