281 <br /> <br />Item 7b <br />Status Report on Earthquake Safety Survey and Mitigation Measures <br />for Relief Reqardinq Unreinforced Masonry Structures <br /> <br /> Mr. Smith presented his memorandum regarding the matter. <br /> <br /> No action was required or taken by the Council on this item. <br /> <br />8. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCILMEMBERS <br />Item 8a <br />United States Senate Bill S.833 <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer stated that he had requested that this item be put <br />on the Agenda and asked for the Council's support. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Mr. Mercer, and seconded by Ms. Mohr, that <br />Resolution No. 89-391 be adopted, supporting United States Senate <br />Bill S.833. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilmember Brandes <br />ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br />Mr. Mercer requested Mr. Walker to send a letter to the <br />Congress and Senate representatives indicating the City's support <br />of the bill. <br /> <br />Item 8b <br />Installation of Stop Siqns at Intersection of Greenwood Road and <br />Canary Drive <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer stated that he had received a letter from Mr. and <br />Mrs. William Sherwood requesting the installation of the stop <br />sign. <br /> <br /> Mr. William Sherwood, 2071 Greenwood Road, mentioned that <br />residents speed through the streets in spite of the 25 miles per <br />hour speed limit. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer commented that there was already a stop sign on <br />Canary Drive and that installing one on Greenwood Road would <br />probably be the only way to control traffic in the area. <br /> <br /> Mr. Butler mentioned that he recalled there was a traffic <br />committee review on this matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Elliott replied that the staff did look into this matter <br />and its recommendation was to deny the request for a stop sign. <br /> <br /> -17- <br /> 9-5-89 <br /> <br /> <br />
