145 <br /> <br /> Ms. Toni Rimer, 5059 Monaco Drive, Chairman of Pleasanton <br />Library Advisory Commission, stated that on the first anniversary <br />of the Libraryes grand opening, the Commission would like to <br />express its appreciation for the City~s support to the County <br />Library System and the Pleasanton Library. She thanked the <br />council for providing the spacious new building and augmented <br />Library hours for Pleasanton citizens as well as for the gift of <br />$50,000 for books for adults and children, and another $50,000 for <br />the Booklegger Project now underway in the Pleasanton Unified <br />School District. She indicated that there has been a 40% increase <br />in circulation and that 2,000 people sometimes use the Library on <br />Sunday afternoons. The Library staff has answered 84,000 <br />reference questions, and 28,360 citizens have attended 796 <br />programs for adults and children. She then introduced Ms. Maureen <br />Kilmurry, the Booklegger Program Director in Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> Ms. Maureen Kilmurry expressed appreciation for the funding <br />for the Booklegger Program. She stated that the Program now has <br />seven trained bookleggers who have visited 113 classrooms. She <br />introduced Leslie, a volunteer booklegger, who presented an actual <br />demonstration of the Program. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer stated that it was taxpayers~ money that <br />contributed to the Library. On behalf of the Councilmembers, he <br />thanked the Commissioners and added that the credit goes to them <br />and those who work in the Library, who have spent so much time and <br />effort to put the Library programs together. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brandes also expressed his gratitude to Ms. Ginnie <br />Cooper, County Librarian, who works with the Pleasanton Library. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ginnie Cooper thanked the Council and stated that the <br />taxpayers~ dollars and everyone else did the work together. <br /> <br /> Mr. Charles Doda, 7983 Applewood Court, thanked the Council <br />for the soundwall on Foothill Road. He then stated that he was <br />opposed to the townhouses being planned on 15 acres at Hacienda <br />Business Park, which should remain a business park. <br /> <br /> Mr. Leo Heckathorn, 4202 Stanley Boulevard, stated that <br />Pleasanton should have card rooms. <br /> <br />6.
