7]

Item 7c
Results of the 1989 Transportation Systems Management (TSM)
Program

Mr. Swift presented his report (IR 90:12) regarding the
matter.

Mr. Tarver noted that the number of companies reporting
information for the survey is dropping off and inquired if
anything could be done to improve it.

Mr. Swift replied that the Transportation Task Force has set
75% as the minimum acceptable response.

Mr. Mercer commented that he found having 26,000 employees
respond to the survey to be excellent.

Item 7d
Senate Bill 1267

Mr. Roush presented his report (IR 90:11) regarding the
matter. He explained that the Bill has been heard and has been
defeated.

Item 7e
Report on Coordination of Classes at Ridqe View Commons and
Kottinger Place

Ms. Bengtson presented her report (IR 90:15) regarding the
matter.

Mr. Mercer stated that the senior programs mentioned in the
staff report are good standard activities but that he would like
to see other types of activities as well, like computer education
and insurance programs.

Mr. Brandes concurred. He stated that staff should set no
limits to the seniors' interests and be as creative as possible.

Ms. Mohr asked Ms. Bengtson if existing classes are generated
through seniors' requests or staff initiative.

Ms. Bengtson replied that the requests often come from
seniors but that staff also proposes some activities. The dilemma
is getting a place and a teacher for the program, and offering the
programs at an affordable cost. Some of the programs mentioned
like insurance seminars, financial planning classes and
counselling sessions are available right now, and the seniors are
encouraged to take them. These courses are offered off-site, and
transportation is available through the Department. They can also
take computer classes through the Adult Education program. Having
a Senior Center would solve some of the problems. A variety of
programs, including computer classes, could be introduced to
seniors from 60 years to 90 years of age.

-17-
2-6-90
