MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCILMEMBERS <br /> Item 8a <br /> Report on the Affordable Housinq Task Force <br /> <br /> Mr. Swift presented his report (SR 90:55) regarding the <br /> matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Rick Aguiar, 7736 Flagstone Drive, member of the Mayor's <br /> Task Force on Affordable Housing and Chairman of the Citizens' <br /> Committee on Affordable Housing, stated that he strongly endorses <br /> the staff report as an initial attempt to introduce affordable <br /> housing into the City and provide an opportunity for the next <br /> generation to continue to live in the City in which they grew up. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Cordtz, member of the Mayor's Task Force as well <br /> as the Citizens' Committee on affordable housing, indicated that <br /> he strongly endorses the program that staff has put together. He <br /> stated that the City needs a housing coordinator or specialist to <br /> work on the program. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Silva, Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce representative <br /> to the Affordable Housing Task Force, stated that he supports the <br /> staff report. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, commended the good job <br /> done by staff under the guidance of the Mayor and Mr. Tarver. He <br /> stated that this is a step forward in the City towards something <br /> that is really necessary and urged Council to adopt the staff <br /> recommendations. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter MacDonald, 400 Main Street, endorsed the staff <br /> recommendation. He stated that this is a real positive move and <br /> that the Citizens' Committee should be of great assistance as the <br /> City gets involved in reviewing the Housing Element policies <br /> during the course of the year. He suggested that the City take a <br /> hard look not just at subsidized projects but also at the concept <br /> that in the long run, market rate housing is truly the solution to <br /> affordable housing. <br /> <br /> -18- <br /> 2-6-90 <br /> <br /> <br />
