there. However, there is the traffic concern about Foothill Road
if there is only one station. In addition, a financing mechanism
for a second station in Pleasanton would be more successful if the
station is built in Hacienda.

Mr. Mercer commented that Supervisor Ed Campbell's idea of
forming some kind of assessment district that would provide local
money to build a third station is not farfetched. It would be far
better to borrow money and pay for it over the years than ask
people for more tax money.

Mr. Butler stated that putting together some private
financing for a third station would be feasible if there already
is a station in East Dublin/Pleasanton.

It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Ms. Mohr, that
Resolution No. 90-13 be adopted, supporting two stations in the
Valley; but if only one station must be chosen, Council selects
the East Dublin/Pleasanton (Hacienda) site and supports all
recommendations in the staff report regarding traffic mitigation
relating to the station.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Item 12d
Approval of the Agreement with the Pleasanton Unified School
District for Joint Use and Construction of Two Gymnasiums and
Ground Lease at 5001 Case Avenue

Mr. Roush presented his report (SR 90:35) regarding the
matter.

Mr. Brandes stated that he had no problem with the agreement,
but that he wanted to make sure that the size and layout of the
gyms concur with the plan earlier presented to the Council.

Mr. Tarver indicated that he would want the layout to come
back to Council.

Mr. Mercer inquired who would pay for the street work at
Harvest Park which involved cutting a median and putting in a
parking lot.

Mr. Bocian replied that nothing has been decided on this
matter. He explained that the School District is aware that the
City made a commitment to give a certain amount of money for the
projects and that anything in excess of that would be paid for by
the District.

-24-
1-16-90
