366

It was then moved by Mr. Brandes, and seconded by Mr. Tarver,
that the PUD on Lot C allow no retail uses except freestanding
restaurants and financial institutions.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmember Brandes, Mohr, and Tarver
NOES: Councilmember Butler
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: Mayor Mercer

Mr. Tarver pointed out that in the Conditions of Approval, the
maximum building height for Parcel B should be 22 feet rather than
25 feet and that the intersections listed on Condition No. 10
should be listed under Condition No. 11 as well.

Mr. Brandes stated that he found Lot A to be an inappropriate
site for a hotel and that it was premature to have another hotel in
the City.

Ms. Mohr commented that if Council felt that zoning for the
property can appropriately accommodate a hotel and subsequently
approved its design, the timeliness of whether or not that hotel
can be absorbed into the market place would be the applicant's
decision.

Mr. Butler indicated that he agreed with Mr. Brandes if the
hotel would be a large one. However, this would be a small one
adjacent to a business park with a reasonable access to the
freeway.

Mr. Tarver commented that the type and size of the hotel would
be appropriate for Pleasanton.

Ms. Mohr pointed out that a two-story hotel rather than a
three-story one would blend better with the overall design concept
in the area.

Mr. Brandes inquired what other uses are allowed on Parcel A
and what the height restrictions on these other uses are.

Mr. Swift replied that the currently approved PUD uses are
hotel and restaurant. The proposed uses include a hotel with two
pads, which would include a restaurant and either financial or
retail.

Mr. Brandes agreed with Ms. Mohr that a smaller, two-story
hotel would be acceptable, with a restaurant but no financial use.

7-17-90

- 18 -
