He stated that Pleasanton's-Downtown Association is <br />active and professional, and its financial security would benefit <br />the City. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gene Finch, 8019 Jorgensen Lane, indicated that the <br />Downtown Association has contributed to the welfare and benefit of <br />the downtown area, and asked the Council for its continued <br />support. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dorothy Scribner, 1866 Brooktree Way, stated that the <br />downtown is the heart of any City, because it is where the town <br />originated and grew and allows for the protection, preservation, <br />enhancement, and promotion of the town. She urge the Council to <br />continue supporting the Downtown Association. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer thanked Ms. Scribner for the time and energy she <br />spent for Heritage Days. <br /> <br /> Ms. Pat Lane, Executive Director of the Pleasanton Downtown <br />Association and elected member of California State Board, stated <br />that the downtown could disappear without the strongly coordinated <br />activities and special events as well as advertising promoted by <br />the Association. <br /> <br /> Ms. Carol Langer, 400 Main Street, a merchant in the downtown <br />area, stated that while what all the speakers have said are true, <br />that is not what is really happening in the downtown. She stated <br />that some businesses have not paid their assessment dues while <br />others feel the assessment should not be mandatory. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brandes commented that the best way to change an <br />unsatisfactory condition is to greater participation and deeper <br />involvement. <br /> <br /> Ms. Langer stated that she had participated in downtown <br />activities but that there was no return on her investment. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Cordtz, a member of the Downtown Association, <br />stated that the Downtown Association should act as downtown's <br />public relations arm and bring more business into town. He <br />expressed concern that the last Board of Directors election was <br />not done in accordance with the By-Laws. He indicated that he <br />could not support the assessment. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ruby Greer, 444 Main Street, Main Street Spirits and <br />Deli, commented that the assessment was inequitable and expensive <br />and that some businesses were assessed while others were not. She <br />stated that the City should finance downtown improvements and <br />inquired what action the City takes against those who do not pay <br />their assessment dues. <br /> <br />Mr. Mercer referred the question to Ms. Rossi. <br /> <br />- 27 - <br /> <br />6-19-90 <br /> <br /> <br />
