He indicated that it <br /> was a privilege and an honor to have served in the 80's, the decade <br /> during which Pleasanton underwent the most significant and <br /> permanent changes to form a community that residents can be proud <br /> of today. He also thanked the different Commissioners and City <br /> staff for being very supportive and commended those working behind <br /> the scenes. He expressed his special thanks to the Pleasanton Fire <br /> Firefighters and the Pleasanton Police Officers for their support <br /> and for providing a safe community for the residents of Pleasanton. <br /> He concluded that he felt comfortable to leave his Council seat <br /> with someone of Dorothy Scribner's capabilities. <br /> <br /> 5. INSTALLATION OF NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS <br /> <br /> Ms. Mohr requested Mr. Mercer, Mr. Tarver and Ms. Dorothy N. <br /> Scribner to come forward. She then requested Judge Ron Hyde to <br /> install the newly elected officials. <br /> <br /> Judge Hyde swore in and installed the newly-elected officials. <br /> <br /> 6. COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Tarver expressed his gratitude to his family for allowing <br /> him to do something he enjoyed. He thanked all who supported his <br /> re-election and voted for him, and indicated that he would try his <br /> best to live up to their expectations. <br /> <br /> Ms. Scribner stated that this was a special moment in her life <br /> because it was the culmination of a dream whose seeds were planted <br /> in her childhood. She related how her parents believed in the <br /> American dream, that with dedication, hard work and commitment, one <br /> could achieve whatever one wanted to be, and that service to God, <br /> country and community is an intricate part of daily life. She <br /> added that her parents taught her that each person is responsible <br /> for himself and that acceptance of that responsibility gives an <br /> individual the courage, stamina and determination to meet the <br /> challenges that life brought, and that one ought to fight for what <br /> he believes is right. She mentioned that her parents are now gone <br /> but that she wished they could have been present because they would <br /> have been proud of her. She then introduced her children and <br /> thanked them for their patience, understanding and compassion, as <br /> well as their encouragement and continued support. She also <br /> thanked her committee and her supporters, especially Mr. Brandes, <br /> who believed in her capability to serve and whose constant <br /> reassurance, optimistic enthusiasm and dedication helped to make <br /> her dream a reality. Lastly, she thanked the voters and indicated <br /> that she would try to live up to the trust and confidence they have <br /> placed in her, as well as to her promise to be open-minded and <br /> fair, to listen to all sides of an issue and to make the best <br /> decision possible for Pleasanton, today and tomorrow. Finally, she <br /> encouraged everyone to follow his dream and pursue it with courage, <br /> because the only limitations to what one can accomplish are those <br /> <br /> - 2 - <br /> 12-04-90 <br /> <br /> <br />
