484 Mr. David Ponnendell, Manager of Deja Vu Deli and Cafe, 336 St. Mary's Street, stated that outdoor dining provides a certain quaintness and charm that would be an enhancement to the City. There being no further testimony, Mr. Mercer declared the public hearing closed. Mr. Mercer inquired if the proposed ordinance would include shopping centers. Mr. Swift replied that the draft ordinance would apply only to the downtown core area, essentially Main Street and First Street. He explained that the areas outside the shopping centers adjacent to the buildings are private property and that the City allows outdoor dining in those areas on a case-by-case basis. Mr. Butler stated that this would be of benefit to the businesses in the downtown area. Ms. Mohr indicated that it would be an attractive feature that would add charm to the downtown. Mr. Mercer commented that this would attract more people to spend time in the downtown area. It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Mr. Tarver, that Ordinance No. 1485 be introduced, to be read by title only and waiving further reading thereof, approving RZ-90-7, the amendment to Chapter 13 of the Pleasanton Municipal Code to permit the use of public sidewalks for non-alcoholic food service and decorative displays by adjoining businesses.
