329

discussion on the City's Municipal Facilities Master Plan and the
CIP Program, he believes that the Senior Center and the Senior Park
are first priorities for this fiscal year. He indicated that it
would be difficult to put a swimming pool in line with the rest of
the unfunded high priority projects, such as the expansion of the
Police Department building or a new Fire Station; however there are
different sources of funding, and the swimming pool could be moved
up in the Five-Year CIP Program, ahead of the Human Services
Center, the hiking trails and parks, the Community and Cultural
Arts Facility, and the Natatorium. He stated that he was not
positive the pool could be constructed in the coming year because
the City has made a commitment to the School District to build two
gymnasiums next year. He proposed that the landscaping projects be
1-- set aside, together with their funding, until after the drought,
< and added that there is no money available at this time for the
snack bar for the Pleasanton Girls Softball League.

Mr. Butler stated that converting the $2.6 million outdoor
complex into a swimming facility was a good idea. He agreed that
the swimming complex could be moved ahead of other projects on the
priority list, but not ahead of the Police and Fire facilities.

Ms. Mohr commented that the City has been very successful in
working with the School District and that she would like Foothill
High School to be considered when the decision to build the pool is
made and funding becomes available.

Mr. Tarver agreed with Ms. Mohr. He stated that there have
been a lot of discussion about Foothill High School not having the
same amenities as Amador High School and that this is a good
opportunity to make an adjustment. He added that the dedication of
the site by the School District would make the project simpler and
less expensive. He indicated that he did not have a problem with
moving the pool ahead on the priority list, since the community
needs that facility, but agreed with Mr. Mercer that other projects
the City has already made a commitment to build should have first
priority

Ms. Scribner agreed that the pool should have a priority
rating. She expressed concern about having a public facility in an
area like Foothill High School, which is not easily accessible by
public transportation. She stated that she was in favor of
proceeding with the Valley Trails projects with some drought
resistant plants, since the neighborhood has waited a long time to
get these done; however, the Hopyard Road landscaping and the Girls
Softball snack bar will have to wait.

- 33 -
7-16-91
