Me referred to the ordinance which read
that if a building size increased by 25%, then it must meet new
parking requirements. He pointed out that he owned five buildings
in a row which had one common parking area, which supplied 35
spaces. He stated that because these buildings were detached, he
was affected by the ordinance. Staff recommended him to merge the
property lines to allow more parking but for financial reasons, he
was unable to do so. He asked favorable consideration of his
appeal.

Ms. Mohr asked if the addition was going to include outdoor
seating in the b~ck. Mr. Beratlis answered no.

There being no further testimony, Mr. Mercer declared the
public hearing closed.

Mayor Mercer believed that Council had a policy to work with
a developer to locate a business in the downtown area and to be as
flexible as possible on the parking. He referred to past projects.

Mr. Swift explained how Council arrived at the current parking
ordinance duration. He indicated that Mr. Beratlis was short three
parking spaces.

2/4/92
11
