Mr. Mercer -- <br /> indicated this would be a one-time process to aid the economic well <br /> being of the city. It is possible it may go to the Convention and <br /> Visitors Bureau. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer could not tell what the product would be, but <br /> indicated the Panel might suggest ways to cut expenses or increase <br /> revenues. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mohr asked what format would be used: subcommittee <br /> meetings or Council workshops? Mr. Mercer replied it could be <br /> either. He stressed the City needs to be actively trying to pull <br /> in business or perhaps changing the uses of some shopping centers. <br /> <br /> Mr. Butler indicated he had no problem with the concept, but <br /> wanted a better focus and direction as to the group. Mr. Mercer <br /> responded that he did not want to structure the group, but to give <br /> it some latitude. Mr. Tarver suggested that Council set a mission. <br /> <br /> Ms. Scribner wanted to be sure the group did not get too <br /> large. Mr. Mercer suggested five to seven people along with Bruce <br /> Kern, who would help work with our staff. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mohr indicated she would like to be a part of the <br /> brainstorming process. Mayor Mercer indicated he would contact <br /> Bruce Kern and suggested Ms. Mohr could be the Council liaison. <br /> <br /> Ms. Acosta suggested Council make some suggestions on what to <br /> look at, such as services and issues, etc. Mr. Mercer indicated <br /> the City of Sunnyvale had done something like this and suggested <br /> getting a copy of its plan. <br /> <br /> Item 8b <br /> Redevelopment Aqency Report <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer requested Council's permission to direct staff to <br /> put together information as to a redevelopment agency to see if it <br /> is still a viable alternative. Mr. Butler supported this <br /> recommendation. <br /> <br /> Item 8c <br /> ~an Francisco Propert~ <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer indicated he had met with the Chairman of the San <br /> Francisco Public Utility Commission, which is now the lead agency <br /> regarding the property. The San Francisco representatives <br /> indicated they would like to move ahead with the process according <br /> to the schedule set by the City of Pleasanton and they are still in <br /> agreement with the Agnos plan to start after the June 2nd election .... <br /> Mayor Mercer indicated he would make the appointments to the <br /> Steering Committee if Council concurred. <br /> <br /> 5/19/92 8 <br /> <br /> <br />
