251

disagreed that the Committee should only be residents. The
selection is very important and the Committee needs expertise.

Ms. Mohr asked if the requirement of being a resident of
Pleasanton is applied to a Committee such as this one.

Ms. Acosta stated that there were different rules for
Commissions and Committees.

Ms. Mohr suggested that the Citizen at Large could be changed
to be someone representing the environmental community. She felt
the purpose of this Committee is to bring expertise from those
sectors of the community that can offer that kind of information to
Council. If it is broadened, the effectiveness would be diluted.
This is a good beginning and changes could be made in a couple of
years if necessary.

John Walters, Doubletree Hotel and President of the Convention
Visitors Bureau, asked that Council consider adding a member from
the Hospitality Committee or the Convention Visitors Bureau. He
was involved with the Mayor's Economic Development Committee and
felt that it was worthwhile and would like to stay involved.
Because of the nature of his business, he is interested in
transportation, affordable housing, etc.

Dave Moils, 1819 Foxswallow, supported Mr. Pico's comments.
He agreed that the educational and environmental aspect of the
community should be represented.

Shelby Martin, Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, 450 Main
Street, reiterated that at the October 25 Board of Directors
meeting of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, the Board approved
the Economic Development Advisory Report in concept. She looked
forward to working with the Committee and staff. Ms. Martin asked
if the selection procedure for the Chamber of Commerce
representative was being changed.

Ms. Acosta stated that the Chamber wanted to select its own
representative to the Committee.

Ms. Mohr felt that a representative from the Hospitality
Committee or the Convention Visitors Bureau is appropriate. It is
more appropriate than manufacturing.

It was moved by Ms. Mohr to establish the Economic Development
Advisory Committee; that the manufacturing member to be replaced
with a representative from the Convention Visitors Bureau; and the
Citizen at Large to be replaced with a representative from the
environmental community.

The motion died for lack of a second.

12/15/92 25
