204

had shown the way to get things done and the way to find the best
for Pleasanton regionally. He was glad that Ms. Mohr was remaining
on the Council. He would really miss Ken. He thanked all of his
supporters, as well as his family.

Mayor Mercer presented Mr. Butler a commendation on behalf of
the City.

Mayor Mercer began by congratulating Mr. Butler for his
integrity and honesty as a Councilmember and he would be missed in
Pleasanton politics. Mr. Butler deserved all of the recognition
and praise that he has received. Mr. Butler was the fair and
honest leader of this City Council. Mr. Mercer thanked Ms. Mohr
for her efforts on the Council and in the non-profit arena which
has helped make Pleasanton what it is today. Mr. Mercer felt that
Ms. Mohr had been the conscience of the Council. He thanked City
staff as well. He also thanked all of the Commissioners, committee
members and volunteers that he had the chance to work with.

Mr. Mercer was leaving office with some hesitation because the
community has gone from a very positive, high citizen participatory
community to a negative, not as involved community. The change has
been gradual and not always in the best interest of the entire
City. He believed that Pleasanton politics have moved into the
modern era. The new City Council has the responsibility to involve
all types of people with varying opinions even those that may
differ. It also has the responsibility of the entire community,
not just to those who voted for each individual. He received more
than he put into this City. It was an honor to represent this City
and he will be grateful to all citizens for allowing him to do so.
Mayor Mercer concluded by thanking his wife and children.

Mr. Tarver presented a commendation to Mayor Mercer. Mr.
Tarver commented that the community owes both Mr. Mercer and Mr.
Butler a debt of gratitude for 30 years of service. He believed
that the newspapers should run a Sunday special that covered all of
their contributions. He then listed all accomplishments that were
done while the two served on Council. He thanked both members.

Ms. Mohr stated that she was going to miss Mr. Butler and Mr.
Mercer very much.

Ms. Scribner also stated that she was going to miss Mr. Butler
and Mr. Mercer but felt confident that both would remain active in
the City.

12/1/92 2
