164

Robert Cordtz, 262 W. Angela, member of the Mayor's Affordable
Housing Task Force, asked what the cost was going to be for these
units. He asked if the units would cost between $120,000 and
$175,000.

Ms. Acosta explained that a price was specifically not set at
this time on the project. There has been discussion on what the
units should be sold at so they will be affordable (80% of the
median income or less). Condition 10 which lists 120% of the
median income simply means that the cost can go up to 120%, but
everyone is working on bringing it down to 80%. She added that as
soon as a design is determined, the cost will be chosen. She said
that it was important not to put a price on the units on this
project at this time.

Mayor Mercer stated that the City's objective is to get nice
quality units at the lowest price possible. The Rotary's objective
is to try to build the nicest quality project at an affordable
price. It feels a commitment to affordable housing and wants to
make a small profit. At this point, there is not a definite number
as to the price of this housing.

Mr. Cordtz was concerned that there is $300,000 worth of land
being dedicated to affordable housing, but there is no approximate
cost set.

Ms. Acosta added that a cost will be set after approval or
denial of the project is determined.

Mr. Butler explained that not only approval or denial is
important, but the number of units could be different, which would
have a major impact on the price.

Mike Madden, 2776 Hartley Gate Court, believed that the
efforts of the City and the Rotary should be applauded. It is very
difficult to provide affordable housing in this community. He
understood that this type of housing is needed in Pleasanton and
this project seemed to be a good project.

Patricia Bacon, 3655 Sirah Court, represented 209 residents in
the Vintage Hills area. She explained that these residents signed
a petition requesting the City owned property on the corner of
Concord and Palomino be designated a park. The petition also
stated that these residents were opposed to any housing development
on this site. Ms. Bacon reiterated her objection to this project.
She indicated that her comments were recorded incorrectly from the
Planning Commission meeting. She asked that those minutes be
amended to reflect her correct address, that the Callahan project
is located on Bernal and Palomino, and her comment on wildlife
habitat. The Planning Commission minutes also failed to mention
that she submitted a map of the area detailing the number of units
in each development along Palomino.
