99

Joyce Getty, 925 Kottinger Drive, indicated many people had
worked on this project, apparently for nothing. In the last 26
years, there have been about seven or eight plans to improve
downtown. She urged Council to proceed with the plan. If the
economy improves, downtown will have a new face. She also stated
she wanted to keep the focus on pedestrian traffic and urged
Council to keep the bulb-out corners.

Gene Finch, 8019 Jorgensen Lane, spoke in favor of proceeding
with the plan now. He expressed the importance of being involved
with the community and for Council to keep in mind what is best for
the community. He pointed out that if the project is delayed it
could add to the cost and the people will lose confidence in City
government.

Bill Laube, 855 Main Street, expressed his dismay at the
change in the bulb-out corners. He indicated the design was chosen
for good reasons by experts and has worked well in other successful
communities. The design would not change the character of
downtown, only enhance it. He felt Council was missing the
opportunity to revitalize downtown.

Shelby Martin, 450 Main Street, Director of the Chamber of
Commerce, indicated support for proceeding with the project now and
urged Council to keep the street furniture.

Gary Dove, 5267 Meadowwood Court, agreed with the concerns
expressed by others. There have been many meetings and a consensus
was reached; now the plan is falling apart.

Pat Lane, 444 Amaral Circle, Pleasanton Downtown Association,
urged Council to go forward with the construction. She indicated
the marketing program has started.

A1 Bronzini, 719 Main Street, said he did not want to postpone
the project. The City is closer now than ever before. Thousands
of dollars have been spent on consultants and to spend more is to
squander the funds. He urged Council to rely on the design
decisions by the experts.

Steven May, 690 Main Street, supported proceeding with the
project and was not in favor of the bulb-outs. He wanted a
depiction of what the design will look like.

Robert Cordtz, 262 West Angela, urged Council to approve the
project and expressed his concerns with the existing water and
sewer lines.

02/23/93 3
