Laguna Oaks Bernal Avenue Bridge/The DeSilva Group <br /> Amfiication for design review approval for the additional bridge across the Arroyo de la Laguna <br /> to b~ constructed immediately south of the existing bridge located on Bemal Avenue between <br /> FOOthill Road and the Bemal Avenue - 1-680 interehanEe. Zoning for the property is PUD <br /> (Planned Unit Development) - Low Density_ Residential District (SR93:299) <br /> <br /> Mr. Swift presented the staff report. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dennis inquired about the alternative placement of the bridge. <br /> <br /> Mr. Swift stated what staff was recommending and described the proposed bridge. <br /> <br /> In response to Ms. Mohr's questions, Mr. Swift explained that a concrete bridge could <br /> be expanded, or a separate bridge could be built. He then explained what the Art and Public <br /> PLaces Committee is recommending for the new bridge. Staff is recommending that the bridge <br /> be referred to the Committee if Council wished to do what the Committee has recommended. <br /> <br /> There was discussion on the bridge and its design, cost and construction. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pico felt that another rendering comparable to the first one was need. This would <br /> help give a better understanding of what staffs proposal would look like. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver declared the public hearing open on the application. <br /> <br /> Jim Summers, Project Manager of the DeSilva Group, offered to provide a rendering of <br /> the proposed bridge. He agreed that it would give a better idea of what the bridge will look like <br /> and how, if possible, it could be built. <br /> <br /> Joy Schomo, 12 Foothill Place, spoke in opposition to removing the existing bridge. She <br /> felt that the steel truss bridge is part of Pleasanton's heritage and was strongly opposed to the <br /> bridge's removal. <br /> <br /> Robert Cordtz, 262 W. Angela, spoke in support of staff s recommendation, Option 1. <br /> He was opposed to removing the existing bridge and felt that it was not necessary to do so. <br /> <br /> There being no further testimony, Mr. Tarvet declared the public hearing closed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Swift explained the Foothill Road realignment plan and the capacity of Bemal <br /> Avenue and the bridge.
