78 <br /> <br /> Linda Wood, Alameda County Librarian, explained the County budget and the funding <br /> for the libraries. She said that realistically the budget will be cut 50 % rather than the expected <br /> 44 %. She explained that the budget will greatly affect the services provided. <br /> <br /> Howard Mendenhal, 1014 Vinmer Road, believed that the City should manage the library <br /> and the library should provide service seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Ms. Mohr, and seconded by Ms. Dennis, approving the City funding <br /> for fiscal year 1993/94 library services; amending the library hours to 21 hours per week; <br /> Sunday, 1-5 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, 1-8 p.m, Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., <br /> Friday, closed, Saturday, 2-6 p.m. <br /> <br /> The roll call vote was as folloWS: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Dennis, Mohr, Pico, Scribner and Mayor Tarvet <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> 7:50 p.m. <br /> <br /> 12. MEETIN~ OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Sharon Heinz, 1797 Santa Rita Road, spoke about the effect the downtown reconstruction <br /> has had on her business (which is now closed) and the recession. She was concerned for the <br /> future of Heasanton. Ms. Heinz felt that she was not being represented by the Council and that <br /> Council was not understanding or listening to what the businesses need. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarvet replied that he had nothing personal against Ms. Heinz and was sorry if <br /> she felt that way. He did not believe that this was a no growth issue and furthermore felt that <br /> the Council was making the best decision possible for Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> Duane Fields, 720 Main Street, Pleasanton Floor Covering, stated that the reconstruction <br /> was killing the merchants' businesses. He believed that the construction was unsafe and <br /> explained the difficulty he has had in receiving deliveries to his store because of the <br /> construction. He phoned Cal-OSHA and was told that the City should have a Safety Inspector <br /> out on site. <br /> <br /> Mr. Elliott indicated that a Cal-OSHA representative visited downtown on Saturday and <br /> said that it was safe. <br /> <br /> 06/15/93 6 <br /> <br /> <br />
