41 <br /> <br /> The following people spoke in favor of this application: Dick Martin, 3971 Rainier <br />Court; Vincent Henneberry, 3319 Harpers Ferry Court; Pat Kernan, 1885 Tanglewood Way; <br />Sharrell Michelotti, 7873 Olive Court and Janie Eddieman, 2155 Westbrook Lane, Livenore, <br />members of Board of Directors of Hope Hospice; Barbara Ashton, 2392 Willet Way; Bob <br />Schlarb, 5162 Greentree Court, who pointed out that there were a few people interested in the <br />property for lease but were not willing to sign for a year leas~ or could not afford the payment. <br /> <br /> Ruby Greer, 444 Main Street, Main Street Spirits and Deli, spoke neither for nor against <br />this application. She was concerned with the negative feelings coming out from this application <br />and reminded the merchants that they must unite during this time. <br /> <br /> Elisa RandaT.7o, 401 Main Street, Ran~_aT.7o Furniture and Doris Polaski, 436 Main <br />Street, The Golden Oak Women's Apparel, spoke in opposition to this application. Ms. Polaski <br />was not opposed to Hope Hospice but to this type of store being downtown. (A petition was <br />given to Council). <br /> <br /> Chris Beratlis, 351 C St. Mary Street and Bruce Takens, President of Downtown <br />Association, agreed that this particular location was not appropriate for this type of use. Mr. <br />Beratlis was concerned with the precedent that would be set if this application were approved. <br /> <br /> Claudius Oliverna, 148 Monaco Court, spoke in opposition to this application. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pelligini reiterated the process to be used for clrop-offs and window decorating. He <br />was bothered by the idea that this store was going to degrade this area. He estimated that 100 <br />shoppers visit the store per day. <br /> <br /> There being no further testimony, Mr. Tarver declared the public hearing closed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pico supported this application. He believed that it should join the Downtown <br />Association even though it is not required to do so. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dennis agreed with Mr. Pico. She thought that even more people would go to the <br />store if were open longer than 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> Ms. Scribner had no doubt that Hope Hospice is a valuable service to the community. <br />However, she did not believe that second hand stores were appropriate uses for Main Street. <br />She explained the condition that Main Street is in under construction and how the businesses are <br />effected. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mohr supported this application. She felt that the store was managed by credible <br />people and will serve the community well. She did not believe that this facility would resemble <br />St. Vincent de Paul's. She reminded those that objected to the application that this a conditional <br />use permit and can be brought to Council for review at any time. <br /> <br />05/18/93 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
