Rachel McElhinney, 6436 Paseo Santa Cruz, mentioned a gun show to be held at the
Fairgrounds. She would like the City Council to send a letter to the County Supervisors in
support of banning gun shows at the Fairgrounds. She could not believe the Fairgrounds would
have a gun show after what happened last year during the Fair.

Ms. Dennis said the County Board of Supervisors is in charge of whether there are or are
not gun shows at the Fairgrounds. Anyone interested in this issue should write the County Board
of Supervisors.

Stan Erickson, 3684 Chillingham Court, indicated that the Citizens for Public Planning
(CAPP) initiative has qualified for the November ballot. He said the count was limited to a
random count because of the large number of signatures that were mined in. He thanked the 80+
volunteers who helped gather signatures. His understanding of the Elections Code is that this
initiative will now be on the November 1999 ballot. He hoped everyone would cooperate in
making this election as understandable as possible. He said a web site is available at
home. att. net/-alliance.

Carole Varela, 3858 Mohr Avenue, said she was the coordinator for the CAPP, founder
for Measure P and founder for the Busch property referendum. She said although it is very
difficult to have to proceed with referendums and initiatives, the process shows that many people
do want changes. She did receive some negative feedback but overall it was a fun process in
gathering signatures. She thanked everyone who helped gather signatures.

Brian McGuire, 233 Del Valle Court, did not agree with using mass media to make
complicated detailed decisions. He appreciated everyone's time and energy that are put into the
process. He felt it comes down to which politician can hide their intentions the best or say the
correct phrases to sway people's decisions. If this initiative passes, the only projects that will get
approved will be those from big time developers who have the money to press the right buttons.
The little people will be shut out of the process. He found a lot of things wrong with the
initiative. He said part of this initiative is down zoning large parcels of land in Pleasanton. He
felt the initiative had good intentions with bad results.

Pleasanton City Council 7 06/01/99
Minutes
