MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Cliff Waiters and Gordon Osmundson gave a slide presentation regarding the Heritage
Rail Corridor. The tracks will be extended from Sunol to Pleasanton and hoped to have it that
expansion completed by next summer.

Ms. Dennis wondered if it was necessary to extend the tracks through the downtown area
or just to the border of the downtown area.

Mr. Walters said one alternative is to go as far as Bernal, if that is the wish of Council.
The corridor is also slighted for a high speed train to be on a California ballot sometime in the
future.

Ms. Michelotti asked who would pay for the cost of the street closures, etc. that would
happen with the construction of the train tracks.

Mr. Waiters believed that could be covered by various transportation grants. He also
clarified that the organization's name is the Pacific Locomotive Association and is not related to
the Pleasanton Railroad Association.

Mayor Tarver said this issue will also be going before the Pleasanton Downtown Specific
Plan Committee.

Valerie Hurst, 3593 Arbor Court, said since 1997 she has been a member of the
Pleasanton Downtown Parks and Trails Master Plan Task Force. A presentation will be made to
the City Council by the end of summer and then the Pleasanton Downtown Specific Plan
- Committee will look at the recommendations. There are a lot of ideas for the railroad corridor.

Pleasanton City Council 6 05/18/99
Minutes
