Ms. Michelotti indicated that it was not so much the discussion at the Pleasanton City
Council, but the process at LAVWMA. A question was raised about the dual pipeline increasing
the capacity. The reason for the dual pipe is to try and mitigate the impacts to the Pleasanton
residents and because the existing pipeline is failing. It does not make sense to try and reline
certain parts of the existing pipeline.

Ms. Ayala said Mayor Brown was trying to understand the logic behind going to a single
pipeline in the urban areas.

Mr. Pico felt the appropriate place to have the discussion is at the LAVWMA Board
level. This Council has directed the LAVWMA representatives to pursue the issue. He felt
confident in carrying the information to the LAVWMA Board for discussion.

Mr. Pico requested information from PG&E regarding alternative power uses.

Ms. Dennis asked if an analysis could be done regarding the wind farms.

Ms. Ayaia asked if PG&E would be able to provide a usage report covering the past ten
years.

It was moved by Mr. Pico, seconded by Ms. Ayala, requesting the presentation from
PG&E on May 18 to include alternatives for power, such as photovoltic; an analysis
regarding wind farms; and a usage report covering the past ten years that sets forth the
predicted usage and actual usage.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, Pico, and Mayor Tarver.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTAIN: None.

Mr. Pico mentioned a letter received from Matt Sullivan regarding the nuclear fuel rods
from Pennsylvania to the G.E. Vallecitos Nuclear plant for testing in late June. He requested
information on the status of the G.E. Vallecitos plant and the transportation of nuclear rods.

Ms. Acosta said it is a difficult issue, given the desire of the nuclear plant not to have a
lot of public information. Staff will do what it can.

Mayor Tarver supported the request. He felt the public should be aware of what is
occurring at the plant.

Pleasanton City Council 17 05/04/99
Minutes
